Heinrich Oberem, weaver and retailer, son of Johann Wilhelm and Catharina (Müsch) Oberem, was born in Ratingen 24 January 18291 and died in Bocholt 28 November 1902.2,3 He married first in Eckamp (Ratingen) 23 August 1851, Anna Maria Heckershoff, daughter of Johann Robert Joseph and Maria Gertrud (Buschmann) Heckershoff.4 She was born in Eckamp (Ratingen) 31 October 18325 and died in Mönchengladbach 11 October 1871.6 He married second in Gemen (Protestant) 4 May 18737 (in Bocholt [Catholic] 6 May 18738), Emilie Amalie Wilhelmine Abel, daughter of Johann Friedrich Wilhelm August and Christina Dorothea Wilhelmine Friedrica (Simdorn) Abel. She was born in Ueckermünde near Stettin (now Szczecin, Poland) 4 May 18429 and died in Bocholt 1 November 1907.10

By 1864, the family moved to Mönchengladbach and were living at Friedrichstraße 24. In the city's address book for the following year, Heinrich is recorded as a retailer. His sister Helena was also living with them and working as a seamstress.11

On 14 July 1882, Heinrich, who was then a foreman at the firm P. Willemsen in Bocholt, submitted an application to obtain a license for a 2 1/2 horsepower steam engine to be utilized at his residence at Neuthor-Mauerstraße (now called Südmauer). The application stated his workshop was to be built in the two back rooms of the ground floor of his home and to be installed with 4 small twisting machines. In 1887, the weaving mill was relocated to Friesenstraße with a new 8 horsepower steam engine. In 1888, it was moved again to Kreuzstraße 25 where it remained until at least 1900 when it had 7 employees. It supposedly burned down around this time.12 Heinrich was still living at Südmauer 3 at his death two years later.3
